What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. As an apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced staff, gain job-specific skills, earn a wage, and get time for study related to your role.
Apprenticeship levels
Apprenticeships have equivalent educational levels:
- Level 2Intermediate (GCSE)
- Level 3Advanced (A Level)
- Level 4-5Higher (Foundation Degree)
- Level 6-7Degree (Bachelor's/Master's)
Duration
Apprenticeships typically last between 1 and 6 years depending on the level, with most taking 2-4 years to complete.
Salary
The minimum apprenticeship wage is £5.28 per hour for under 18s and those in their first year. Many employers offer more.
Work-Study Balance
You'll spend 80% of your time in on-the-job training and 20% in off-the-job learning with a training provider.
